In June 2016, my local town got a whole lot better, as a new independent health food shop Sprout opened its doors to the public. Sprout not only puts a spotlight on local businesses, but also provides a wide range of natural food, drinks and produce (as well as killer coffee and raw cakes). By filling the niche in Newquay’s business market, Sprout has quickly become a hot-spot with locals and tourists alike – which is of course helped by the warmth, friendliness and knowledge of the staff and owners.
In this long over-due post, I thought I’d share with you some of the goodies I picked up on my visit the other day!
I had never actually cooked polenta myself, but had really enjoyed it when eating out, so we picked some up to give it a try! The next couple of days were filled with yummy foods such as polenta chips and polenta bakes, so we be definitely repurchasing next time.
Who doesn’t love some locally made delicious bread? These were the perfect accompaniment for the warming root vegetable soup that I whipped up to get us through all of the Cornish wind and rain!
As a recovering crisp addict, having a healthier alternative is great. Sprout have a wide selection of chips, but I picked up tomato and basil hummus chips on this visit (they were delicious).
I’m loving cooking crispy fried tofu at the moment, so having pre-flavoured tofu is amazing, as it takes out the time consuming step of marinating. I popped this in some pasta with the Mr Organics pesto below for a tasty quick meal.
Previously, I have been a bit of a tempeh skeptic, but this product has definitely converted me. If you’re missing bacon as a vegan, be sure to give this a try.
Apple cider vinegar – the holy grail of versatile produce. I use mine not only for cooking but also as part of my skin care routine! This one is great as it is organic, raw and also contains the mother which is known to have great anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Pesto + garlic + chilli + pasta = life
Another gem made by Vicky’s Bread is this potato and chilli loaf. I have personally eaten the whole thing in a day and a half, so I guess you can gauge my opinion on it from that.
Lastly, I of course needed something to put all of my purchases in, so decided to pick up on of Sprout’s reusable bags!
Sprout is located at The Old Printhouse, just off the main high-street in Newquay, so if you are ever in the area, be sure to go in and check them out.
